Task 12.2 - Airspace navigation and legal compliance
This assignment invites the group to familiarize themselves with regulations by exploring real-world locations and researching related regulations using free, public online resources.
Learning focus:
- Understand the practical application of AIP, navigate restricted and protected areas, and deal with privacy (GDPR) and international differences.
- "Out of the desk" element: Digital exploration and collaboration based on collected data.
- Simple aids: Internet access, computer or tablet with access to:
- NSM SensorApp: https://nsm.geodataonline.no/sensorapp/
- Naturbase.no: For protected areas
- IPPC.no (Avinor's AIP): For aviation information
- Google Maps or similar for overview maps
- Online discovery of regulations directly related to drone flying
Task description:
Location selection:
Choose a location in Norway with potential regulatory challenges. Examples:
- Close to a major airport (e.g. Gardermoen)
- In or near a national park or nature reserve (e.g. Rondane)
- Near a military facility or other restriction zone
- In densely populated areas with many private homes
Digital reconnaissance:
Use the suggested online resources to map:
- Airspace restrictions: Find controlled airspace, no-fly zones or restrictions related to military facilities or critical infrastructure.
- Protected areas: Check if the location is a protected area or national park and what rules apply to drone flying.
- Internationally (in border areas): Discuss national differences (e.g. photo ban in Sweden, privacy in Denmark) if the operation crosses the border.
Compliance discussion:
Discuss:
- How would you plan your flight to comply with all laws and regulations?
- What steps need to be taken to comply with GDPR and privacy considerations when collecting images/video?
- What needs to be done differently when flying internationally?
Reporting:
Create a short summary or presentation showing the key challenges and how the group ensures compliance.
